This is why you should read "The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo"

Updated: May 19, 2022

Taylor's historical fiction continues to sweep book-lovers with its magic even after 5 years of its publishing. And our co-founder Mansi is no exception. Here she (not so) subtly convinces you too to add this to your TBR, now! #NoSpoilers.

"I can't seem to find the structure to compartmentalize and carve out the various feelings wobbling in my brain. They've been doing so ever since I started reading "The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid". It’s been one of the stories that I have chased through the days, pacing through my chores to get to just one more paragraph. Yes, that’s all that mattered to me. And now, I don’t know if there ever was an Evelyn Hugo, but she now exists for me, and so do Celia, Harry, Monique, James, and Connor.

It has all the elements to keep a reader hooked, from the perfect amount of mystery, interesting characters, brilliant settings and details, and a gamut of humanly possible emotions to not only thought-provoking instances but also life-altering lessons.

I can’t praise Taylor’s brilliance enough in bringing this story to us. It’s one of the most gripping stories I’ve read lately, with convincingly phenomenal details. She knew exactly what she was doing when she accurately placed the elements of mystery throughout the book. She knew we’d ache for them. Just like with every section, I knew what the title was doing to me. Even when everything seemed great, I waited wide awake for the other shoe to drop. For I knew she’d be married again, and something had to go terribly downhill for her to land there.

Book Cover of "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid" where we see a lady wearing red lipstick, with short blonde hair, wearing an emerald green dress with pearl necklace. We don't see her full face, it's left to reader's imagination.

With this book, Taylor has offered us a new lens and has introduced us to various voices that are usually hidden behind the glamour of stardom. There's not a part in the book that I wouldn't like to believe, call me someone who can get easily influenced, but you probably might not say so after you've read the book too. It has all the elements to keep a reader hooked, from the perfect amount of mystery, interesting characters, brilliant settings and details, and a gamut of humanly possible emotions to not only thought-provoking instances but also life-altering lessons. I can't look at a lot of things the same way anymore. Be it the carefully crafted lies of showbiz, the loss of almost everything that comes with power and fame, and how it's always LOVE that we all crave, need and desire. Apart from these, the extraordinarily perceptive definitions of things like marriage, heartbreak, divorce, sex, sexuality, infidelity, and the luxury of panic are totally something to go in for.

Taylor also makes us meet almost a dozen characters and each brings with them their distinctive yet realistic personality traits. You may like some, feel sorry for some, love some, and possibly judge all of them, especially Evelyn Hugo but there's no denying the fact of how influential each of them is in their own unique ways.

Well, without giving anything away, I want to tell you that this book is a worth living experience. So, ditch all your preconceived notions, stop putting off reading this gem, and just allow yourself to dive into the journey of a stranger who wouldn't really remain one by the end of the book. In fact, It may not even remain just about her but become so much about you too."

Happy Reading :)
